Thanks so much. I guess I might keep this blog up, but not sure just yet. Don't know how much poker I'm going to be playing in the future. The new "Port Bill" is really a bummer. My new job on the other hand is not. My new gig is going to throw a big kink in the poker play time, but that's ok, it's a dream gig. I have a very long list of folks that I should thanks...but I'm too lazy. Karma will provide all the thanks you deserve. I will probably post a big, long, "what a great time, thanks" post in the next few days.

This is a poker blog, not a political blog so I won't go into the way I feel. I can say that I'm glad I'm out of the state of Tennessee. I met many great people there, but Frist makes me glad to be out of the south. But I'm sure that the Congressfolk from KS voted south on this thing also. Why does Frist even have a dog in this fight? I MIGHT be able to understand if TN had B&M casinos that he was trying to protect. Go read the story here...or here. Pocketfives.com is also post heavy on the topic right now. And a 700 mile wall by Mexico???!! Nice work. Way to take a line from China circa 800 B.C. All the money and technology we have and you go for a wall? Attached online gambling "leach bill" to a last minute to a port security bill, classy. Just another great move by our government. I hope that you vote this November.

One big issue I've been trying to fix in my game avoiding "poker-rage." I do not have road-rage and really am a very laid back guy in life. I don't get too worked up about much. For some reason poker and online madden make me lose my mind. Sometimes if I take a really bad beat I turn into a very angry person, Angry Alice like (Howard Stern reference). I have really gone off on some guys in a tournament or two. If you play online poker, you know how annoying this can be. To watch two guys go back and forth like 3rd graders during a $1 online poker tournament is just sad. It's like masturbation, I can't stop myself and then I'm ashamed RIGHT AFTER I do it. (I mean, overeating or drinking, maybe that is a better comparison.) What good does it do, nothing. Makes me look like an idiot, just like I'm acting. So my friend told me about a trick, just a magic phrase that seems to work for me..."Well played." I've been using it, and it works for me. I really try to stop at that. Often it will go down like this...

AK in the pocket.

Board is A89/Q/3. I bet the whole way, he calls all the way down and wins the hand with two pair, A's and 3's. I say "Well Played" he says "ty." 1/3 of the time it will stay at that. 1/3 of the time someone else at the table will "lol" and 1/3 of the time I'll respond with "I was lying." (Why can't I stop?!)

I think this is part of my poker game growing, I also think it's me growing up. If I have been less than friendly at the table that you were at, my apologies. If it happens in the future, same thing in advance. I'm working on it, the first step is admitting the problem. And to the nuns at the Catholic grade school that I didn't go to, sorry about the other stuff.

How do you handle this? I'm sure it doesn't happen in the bigger buy-ins, but I see it a lot during tournaments with a buy-in under $20.

The stage: $10 Re-buy NL HE on AP last nite.

The Villain: Pushaholic.

Early in this tournament I was at the table with Villain. He is the guy that pushes when he plays. You tend to see this even more in a re-buy tournament. The plan is to stay out of his way until you have a very good hand then play back. He was knockin' folks out with 87's, JT, A3's and the like.

Fast forward to the bubble. Final two tables, 13 left, top 9 get paid. Now he is at 50k and on my left. Ave at the table is at 18K, ss is at 7K. So he is pushing every hand. Do you take a stand this close to the bubble? Or take the risk blinding down? He doesn't mind going at you with his big stack. How good of a hand do you need? If you make it to the final table, you cash, PLUS have a shot at really doing well, and he will be at the table with other bigger stacks that can hurt him.

I ended up taking a stand with AK, he knocks me off the final table with 24o.

My thoughts are, it's gambling. If he is pushing with anything, you want to get in a head, hope to double up and really be sitting sweet at the final table.

GSN's High Stakes Poker is the best poker show out there. Just imagine how good it would be if we could hear the conversation at the table! Gabe is so busy doing his "Andy Rooney" impersonation that we can't hear Ted Forest talking about the hand. I'm sure that 90% of the people in the demographic that the show targets find the "Andy Rooney" impersonation hilarious, but personally I would rather hear Ted Forest talk about poker. I'm not saying don't have hosts, I'm a broadcaster, so I'm glad they have a job, but performance is an issue. I would much rather listen to the players talk about prop bets than hear Gabe do his impression of the guy that ends 60 Minutes every week.

Today at work, my ailing hard drive, finally died. I couldn't work in the studio, so no show this week. Bummer for all of us. They said it should be replaced tomorrow morning, so next Monday the show will return.

I know that my biggest problem is the action that I advocate, pay attention! I can't. Too much stuff on these internets!

Royals game on Friday, hangover on Sat and golf on Sunday. Not much poker this weekend. I'm sweating Rizen in the Sunday million on Party, hoping to learn a thing or two.

Two things I'm not good at fantasy football and web stuff. I don't know what the issue with comment moderation is. Sometimes it will allow comments, sometimes it does not. But trust me, I'm happy to have anyone reading this.

The 60 Minutes re-run has the segment about online gambling and HOWARD STERN.

Is learning when you mis-play a hand and then are not able to forget about it? Or is that just obsession?

PPT tough to watch

"They want it." "He wants it." "He REALLY wants to win this one." Next time an episode of the PPT is on I'm going to count the number of times the announcers pump up how "important" this tournament is. Mark Sief really can spit some good knowledge, but they spend too much time with "wow" and he really wants it. No Cinderella story to boot, I'm guess I'm just about Tuesday nights on ESPN these days.

Took 3rd in a $2 MTT last nite. I will NOT play anything less than a $5 buy-in in the future. All that time for $70 is not worth it, but it is fun to get that far.

So I won that HU NL tournament and have been stone cold since then. It's going to be nice to take a day off. I'm headed to kick off the Ron Prince era in Manhattan Kansas tomorrow. Good times will be had by all. I 1/2 hope I don't end up in Aggieville though. The more tournament poker I play, the more respect I have for guys that play tournaments well. Johnny Chan back-to-back WSOP?! That is just sick.

93 of 2439. Suck. I blinded down way too far. I'm close, just need to make a run, not just "cash." I need to work on two things, controlling pot size and my mid tournament play. I seem to be able to double up every event, then for some reason I just stop playing. I get too tight and go out like Broomcorn's uncle waiting on a coinflip situation. I don't know. I'm really thinking about PXF or something, I just don't know if my BR can support it.

Did ya miss the PPT tonight? How about recent show guest Vince Burgio! Looked like he was on his game. He represented KC very well I must say. I am also becoming a fan of Mark Sief. I think he needs some work in the booth, but he is improving. They are a little too much with the "self promotion" raps, but I think if you can put up with that stuff Mark can really lay out some nice tips for you. The show runs twice on Wednesday on the Travel Channel.

I did a "family thing" this evening, so I couldn't PPV the final table. There are still 6 players left, I wonder if I should start it now? Can I get a discount? There is a bar here in town holding tournaments and showing the FT on the tv's, missed that also. And I'm not there, so it's kind of a bummer all the way around. I would not hate you for sliding me the bittorent of the final table if you see it. As a matter of fact I might be able to find some free stuff for you? Buller? Buller?

Running bad as of late. I'm really looking at buying into one of the online poker schools. I just don't know if it's worth 1/2 my BR to do it. And I'm not sure which one to choose. I'm going to try and do some research and do a segment on the show about it. It seems as though there are some quality options out there.

I love tournaments. Big MTT NL HE tournaments. I suck at them. Odd thing. Like REALLY being into that chick that you are pretty sure is cheating on you and probably out of your league. I can't help it. I feel like I am improving, but that isn't showing in my results. I am read a tournament book by Sklansky, and this book confirms what I've been thinking, this dude is a total dick. No show this week. I started a "Poker league" on Monday nights. This won't change much, I just wanted to make sure I made the first one. I won't bore you with the details of the set up or the two horrible beats I took, but I am looking forward to really seeing where I stack up over a 10 month period vs a bunch of other poker players. The show will be back next Monday.

The camp at the Royal River Casino in Sioux Falls, SD went great! The entire state is just SO DAMN NICE. Maybe too nice. I'll give more details on the next show. Thanks to EVERYONE that I met during the trip.

Played a live $30 re-buy today at Ameristar. 1st paid $818, 32 players total. Early I got AA, KK and 88 and picked up the blinds each time. (Before you keep reading...WARNING...I cry about a bad beat before the end of this post.) As as I started getting low I got UTG + 1 I wake up with TT, I lead and 1 caller. Board comes 8 high, I bet the min, he pushes I have to call for all of it. He shows AK and I win.

I'm chip leader with 18 to go.

(Break)

Back from break I get KJdd UTG, I raise cause the table had been playing so tight, two smaller stacks go in and it's like 1/3 of my OR so I have to call. I'm up against AK and TT. K hits and I don't improve so I'm back to average stack. I get to the final table on the SB. Not much happens. Three guys get all in - AK vs AA vs 89 with AK the CL. AK sucks out and knocks out two.

On the bubble:
1 Major Stack.
1 OK stack.
Myself and old man river.
then SS with less than an orbit.

SS pushes UTG (CL is bb) I wake up with AKdd. I push also and CL calls.

I have AKdd
CL has A9o
SS had j8o

River is an 8 and I'm hurt.

Now I'm down to less than bb.

Folds around to sb. He calls, I turn AQo he turns A5o and hits his 5 on the flop. I'm out on the bubble.

My biggest mistake was the KJdd in early pos. Shouldn't have played it. Cost me about 1/4 of my stack when I was CL. Too early to play that. Not saying that would have changed things, but that one hurt the most. Postition, postion, position!

When down and played BJ and got my buy-in back. So it cost me gas, coffee and apple fritter and 6 hours of my life.

Finally a nice cash after quite a long drought. Tonight I played the 2K guarantee on poker.com. I just played my TAG game. I snuck onto the final table, into the money on the short stack. I doubled up with 99 about 2 hands in. From there I got on a rush! Three hands later I was chipleader. I held onto the chip lead until we got three way. I ended up heads up, feeling good. It was back and forth for a while. I got 57o on the sb, flop comes 779. I bet, he raises. Blank on the turn, I check, he goes all in. I put him on a 9, he turns over j7o. (Could I have folded that? Even if you knew his play intimately?) I don't suck out and I'm done 2 hands later. WCYD. Turned $20 into $400, so not a horrible payday, but 2ND Sucks. I wanted 1st. I can't imagine how much this would hurt if it were for real money. Does make me feel good about my game, that is probably bigger than the money. I was really starting to question my play.

How come when you Google Bradys Poker Blog, I'm not even on the top page? That is nutz.

I am also still in the hunt for biggest poker/radio nerd in the world. I think I have a good shot at that title. This evening on my way home from work, I was listening to the live coverage of the WSOP on Sirius. Phil Gordon was co-hosting. They asked for calls, so I did. I got on the air. I was going to try and sneak in a plug for Ante UP, but didn't have an opportunity. The way they have the broadcast set up is bad for the callers. It sounds good on the air, but when you call in the ambient noise mics are way too loud to have a conversation. No plug, but mark "Get on the air nationwide" off the list of things to do this year!

Weekend poker/STACKED

Another weekend, lots of poker, BR still going down.

Party Steps.
I like to play Party steps. They can do nice things for the bankroll. I just didn't have much luck with them this weekend. By much luck I mean NONE. I cannot believe how tight the play is in these things. They really turn into a crap shoot. Plus, it's tough to move on to step two because you have to win the damn thing. I'm done with them, for now.

DEEP INTO A MTT.
because I had no luck in the steps I played my last $1 on party in a $1 MTT. 1473 entered. 180 paid. I went out 41st, good for $5. Why did I do that? Should have taken it to party blackjack. I need to stop playing these huge Fields. They are too big, even if you build up some chips, there are too many times you have to not get unlucky. I wasn't very happy with the way I played. Spent most of the tournament playing survival. I was lucky to make a nice rush a couple times, ended up cashing.

STACKED REVIEW
Played "Stacked" (see banner on the right >). I'm a pong kid. I used to play Intellivision, so Stacked blows my mind. The problem with the game is that it's play money. You can create your own players, you can unlock several pros. They also have an "Ask Daniel" feature that is real cool, gives you tips during play. They have tons of options and you can unlock several pros. You do have to win tournaments to move on. At the end of the day, it's still play money. Because I have WSOP dreams and I play a ton of poker, it's hard for me to play with the discipline that you need to win at poker. The play in kind of slow, but the fact that you can change your POV almost makes up for it. The other cool thing about the game is that you can play it online on your PS2 or X-Box. MTV is also working with Stacked, so you have to put the odds on a bright future for this game. It's great for someone that is just starting to play poker or someone that doesn't want to risk any money online. I think that its probably a great learning tool. Don't look to get to the end of the game or to the final tournament in one weekend, but if you are a gamer and looking to learn poker, look to STACKED. Spent some time this weekend taking on a heads up challenger from London. He listens to the show, heard me make mention that I dig the HU sng's, so he challenged me to a duel. We got our weapons, walked five paces and fired. I did it for our country. I took it down. My own little Boston tea party on 4th of July weekend. USA. (This dude is super cool, he railed me on a MTT, had some nice input. Good guy, thanks for the game and glad to have you listening on the other side of the pond. Why is all of this in parentheses? Is that even what they are called?)

I spent my day off, just like I spend my time at work, staring at a couple monitors. I had some nice cashes this weekend. On stars I ft'ed a 180 and a big MTT $2 tournament for over $100 total. On poker.com I took 4th in a $15 for $150. Looks week considering that the WSOP is going on right now, but for me and my tiny BR, it was a good couple days. I really think that my play is improving, even if my br isn't.

I also spent some time playing my new copy of STACKED on PS2. Look for a full review this week!

The American Dream

Poker...Damn. (That is for the New Jack fans in the house!)

If you missed the WPT this week, try to catch it on Saturday. It's great one guy at the final table is (I think) a garbage man from Canada that got in on a $25 satellite. And one dude is from Vegas, I think he's in a band. The end of the show is the best I've seen yet. With shows like that, and the WSOP going on right now...is there any doubt.

(Thanks AZSlick) The poker doesn't stop on the travel channel, the PPT starts next week.

Something else I want to talk about is positive thinking. I talked to AZSlick and Kenna James about this last week. Not so much in the, "if you think it, it will happen" mode. But it's a thing that you have to believe in yourself. If you don't have confidence at the table, you spend too much time second guessing yourself not studying your opponents. I've done enough study on the game, I need to start KNOWING that I'm good.

I dunno, I play poker, lots of it, and STILL SUCK. I guess that is what makes poker fun for the rest of you.

I went out EARLY this morning, ready for the WPT satellite at Ameristar. They said they needed to double up the number of entries or they weren't going to have enough for a seat, so I took the refund. I figure, I would never play a $200 shootout online, why would I play one live? That $200 will last me like a week online. So I punked out. I played 3/6 limit, lost there. So I tried a NL game. I did double up, then never caught another hand. It sucked. Go back to the books or backgammon?

At least I KNOW the show is good. And by good, I mean VERY GOOD tomorrow.

Three big tournaments this week...Let's hope I can cash in ONE of them...

Last nite I tried to get into the Big Sunday tournament on Party. That proved to be VERY difficult since I entered the wrong tournament! I actually entered a WSOP satellite satellite. I sent party an email trying to change this, or see if I can use my entry for a different tournament. If not, I'm playing in a $215 WSOP satellite this evening.

UPDATE: I'm not anywhere close to the top of this one. I did make it to the break. Is it just me, or does the worst player at the table always seem to be the CL? I've seen the CL at this table go all in with 68s, k3o and some other nice ones. Maybe that is why I don't have any chips, I must not understand the game I am playing. I have 2k in chips, waiting for a big A or any pair!

I made it to top 100. I could have/should have laid down my AK. I was pretty short stack, so maybe I couldn't. Hindsite isn't even 20/20 now. Bummer. No WSOP this year. I have one more 'BIG' tournament this week. One more chance to do something...

This after noon I'm in the "Blogger Championship" on Stars. Seems like this is big and they are giving out some cool prizes outside of cash. Since it's a freeroll, with this only factor in signing up is being able to set up a blog no matter how good or bad, it should be fun.

UPDATE: 1st place in this bad boy is a main event seat. They are paying top 54 players, nanos are in the payout mix. 2247 started, 1497 left at the first break. Ave stack is 3002, I'm at 4,870. The mutha is the fact that CL is at 26,450.

Few weeks ago I took the free $75 party was offering up and drove it up over $200. Some how I've donked most of it off. Amazing considering the small limits I play. What is my issue? I think that the small limits I'm playing ARE the issue. I've realized in the past couple days that my biggest issue right now is focus. To sit in a $1 MTT SNG on stars is really doing nothing for me. Last nite I was ave stack at the FT and I made a bad play. Tried to pick up the blinds from the button with KQo. BB re-raises me all-in. Should be an easy laydown. I insta-call and I'm out when his rockets hold up. Instead of crying "Why AA?" "Why does the other guy always have AA!" I need to figure out why I made that call, when I know it's the wrong play. Focus is my issue. I need to have a goal. Just playing everyday for hours on end at these small limits is probably hurting my game more than it is helping. I'm not playing against good players and the money really doesn't "mean" anything to me.

If you aren't winning, the 1st step is identifying the problem. It's not, "online poker is rigged" or "I'm unlucky." It's your (my) play. Now that I know my biggest issue is concentration and focus, how do I fix it. That is step 2.

I played live all day Saturday. I still can't crack that low limit table. I don't know if I should keep trying or if I should move to the NL table. I feel like I play too few hands, and then I have to hit on those hands. But I hate playing weak kickers, all that. I lost a couple big hands to the table "chaser." He was broke WAY before I was, but I didn't get my chips back from him. I'm not giving up, just bothered by the whole thing still. Maybe I should try some online limit, tighten up my game and look for the holes.

I did play a 2 table, re-buy at Ameristar. I really don't like re-buying. I did add-on, once. The big hand went kind of like this...
Blinds are 50/100. There is an extra old, extra aggressive man 2 to my left. I'm early so I limp with AQ spades. Playing for the huge flop. Worried about how aggressive it's going to get past me, so I just limp. Old man bumps it to 400. 1 more caller, so I call. Flop comes 8d/Ks/9s. Pretty good flop for me, I check. Old man, goes all in and the other caller goes all in. Now wtf do I do? Pretty early in the game to risk all my chips. I have them both out stacked, but not by much. With the blinds, there is about 4500 in the middle, it's going to cost me 1850 to call. I had to. I was getting a great price, I could triple up, and maybe take two guys out. Old man shows AKo, and caller shows JJ. Turn is a J and no spade, so I get HURT. I take the addon.

I was short stack of the two tables coming back from break. I was going to wait for my spot and then roll the dice. Play was crazy after the break, like it normally is in a re-buy tournament. Three guys go out right away. I try to pick up the blinds, end up running and winning a couple races. At this point I have a beat on a few guys at the tables, and I know who to steal from and who to stay away from. I make it to the final table, and at the next break, with 9 left and top 4 getting a seat to the WPT sat on June 25th, I'm 2nd in chips. I'm pretty sure I can limp into the money. It got dicey at points. The guy in the 7 seat didn't know it was a sat tournament and he wanted 5th so he could get the money, he was calling everything and couldn't lose with this 92o. Long story, longer, I make it to the top 4. I return on the 25th to take a shot at a trip to WPT Legends of Poker tournament at the Bike in August. I know I'm a long shot, but someone has to win. I've kicked in the Normal Vincent Peale plan on this one. What this did for me most was gave my live tournament play a HUGE shot in the arm. At this point I plan on going out there and really giving it a run.

I'm just angry right now. I guess the official term for it is "steaming." I just don't feel like that does it justice. I'm "punch a kitten in the face" angry. Good thing I don't have a cat. Good for the cat I guess.

1) Angry at "the circuit.' I listened to the "circuit" tonight on card player magazine. Talk about wrong place wrong time, that's me. I think that Gavin is a great poker player, so is Joe Sebok. Joe has been on my show and he is SUPER COOL. But that show sounds like it's on a college station in Council Bluffs Iowa. Wait, I think the college station there is actually pretty damn good. You get my point. But what is more important, being a good radio guy doing a poker show or being a good poker guy doing a radio show. I guess it's the latter. They are in a great spot with Card Player and they are rolling. Congrats to them.

2) Played the DeepStack $10 on FTP tonight. First time I have played a ds tourney before. Suits my style well. Weak/tight is great for a ds tournament, cause I can just wait. I was rolling along, after the break. Blinds are around 80/160. I'm on the bb. 5 players limp. I have k30. Flop comes 3kT rainbow. I bet the pot, one caller. 6 comes, I'm feeling good. I check raise, all-in, he is bigger than I am, he calls. He shows KJ. I'm golden, till the T hits...and I'm out. I guess he did have 6 outs or so.

3) $20 re-buy tournament on Pokerroom. I had a $20 sat ticket, so I was not going to re-buy. I made it through the break, and then doubled up. I get QQ in late position. Binds are 100/200. One limper behind me, the big stack at the table, so I pump it up to $900. Big stack calls. Flop comes 239 rainbow. I bet about the pot. He calls. Turn is a 9, he checks I push it all, he calls, and shows 96o. I'm out. My mistake here is something that my buddy Gentle Ben talks about...Don't mess with the guys that can take you out. Maybe now I'll listen to him. I guess I'll go to bed and think about it a while.

If you missed this tournament, you missed a good one. HUGE layover.

Play was tight and aggressive from almost everyone. We didn't lose a player until the 3rd level. AZSlick was our first causality when his A9s ran in to bgarske's pair of ladies.

Balvey2474 is out off the short stack and off the bubble when his QJ loses to Cleavageandbeer's 35. Cleaveageandbeer won the prize for best username and for wildest play. He went out third and the title came down to me vs TTitan. He played extra tight early, got some chips then handled the field. I seem to do well HU, so after some serious HU play, I ended up winning the whole damn thing with 87!

Thanks to everyone who came out and played, very cool group of players. Thanks for taking it easy on my and letting me win my own tournament.

Played my first live tournament at a casino since I began "playing" poker. It was a 3 table MTT at Ameristar, $35 w/ $15 R and AO. I didn't take a re-buy or add-on. It was ok, but played alot like the $3/$6 table. I got all my money in with my QQ vs 68s. He tripped up on the turn and I was out. That is a beatable tournament, I plan to return. 1st paid over $700.

I have do to something about my bankroll. I don't think I can go back to Ameristar and play low limit hold'em again. That $3/$6 game is just too much luck. I'm sure that Mason M and David S would disagree, but I just don't see how it's a beatable game, without luck on your side. I was jamming the pot with KK, all unders, guy calls all the way down to the river, tripped his Q. Hand right before that, I have 13 plus out at the turn, never hit, other guy wins with one pair. I just seem to either play too tight and get blinded down or get out drawn cause I can't protect my hand. I think my issue is the fact that I play so much NL that I just don't get low limit. I did read up on the LL HE section of super system, but they preach aggression, that just didn't work for me. I think my plan is to build a bankroll and go out and play $5/$10, see if I have more luck with that. I start building my bankroll tonight when I win my own tournament!

Just crusin' the web tonight, trying to avoid the pern and I find the "Ante-up Pokercast." Kind of a nifty name for a show about poker. They have a nice little forum to that goes with it. The title of this blog entry also happened to be the the title of one of the forum topics.

After reading this forum topic, I've come to realize I'm "excitable." I guess that is not something that poker guys that listen to podcasts and post on forums look for in a show. ("Crazy" was also mentioned once, but I don't think in a good way, more of a "morning zoo" thing is what he was going for.) If you have listened to my show more than (I listened to the other one for) "1 and a half" (episodes today. Then I deleted it from my podcast list.) like Loren here...
then you will know that I do the show because I love radio and love poker. Not because I'm great at either. I do dig doing the show and I hope to continue improving both my poker game and my radio skills. I can say a couple things about the "other Ante up"...congrats to them. I say the more podcasts and the more poker out there, the better for all of us. I have not listened to their show, but I'm going to try and make it a point to do that in the near future. I'm also glad that they do have loyal listeners. If it weren't for my loyal listeners there wouldn't be a show, and I'm sure that many radio shows and podcasts can say the same thing. "Different strokes for..."

I just finished playing poker for over 12 hours. Too much. To kick off the long weekend I headed to Ameristar here in KC. I would have been able to play a few more hands if I could read a mapquest and didn't get lost for an extra hour. Should have been an indicator. I walked right into a seat at the 3/6 hold-em game. I had to be the youngest guy at the table by about 93 years. I was card dead for an hour, got stuck a C note, and managed to scrape back up after a re-buy and walked 5 hours later down only $10. Almost saw a fist fight, that would have made it worth every cent I lost. The money I left there, plus the $30 in gas, not a horrible way to spend $40 on a Saturday, since I haven't lined up a home game here yet.

Then begging for more punishment I played the $20K guaranteed tonight on Party. I'm still playing off the free $75 they gave me a couple weeks back. 2023 started, I finished 23rd. Went out with top pair. I was REALLY eyeing that final table...didn't happen. I'm off to Salina, Kansas tomorrow afternoon, I'm thinking about reading H on H during the drive. Maybe that will push me over the edge next time. I'm going to try to sleep, thinking I should have folded that KQ on the sb, and try to wait for an all-in hand to take me to the final table.

Does that post scare any of my fellow bloggers out there? Shouldn't. Get in this bad boy....

WCYD. I think my only other option was to "stop and go." Push all-in post flop when no overs show up. Either way, I'm pretty sure it was going in the middle. Still wouldn't have been leading at that table, so again, What Can Ya Do.

As far as the Neil Young album goes...I give it a strong 7. Same old Neil. I dig his message. Has he had these songs saved up since Nam? Is it sad that Neil Young is the only one saying this stuff? I played in a 45 player s-n-g this eve on FTP. I'm going to try and set up the situation. How should I have played it?(1) 16,000(2) big stack/rest(3) 11,000(1) was very protective of his blind. As we got down to three, I was in his sb and he would often re-raise big to buy the pot. I get AJs in the sb, I limp, expecting him to re-raise. He does...all-in. I call, he shows KTo. He hits the K and I'm out. This went down how I wanted it to, except for the K. I guess that is my point. I was 80% sure I would be a favorite if I call all-in. If I lay it down, it would only cost me a sb and I still have several orbits to keep playing. I guess this might be a situation you always end up in during tournaments.

Is it right to call all-in as a favorite if the loss takes you to the felt?
Have I read this/forgot this already? Is it in Harrington on hold'em? Is this have something to do with the gigabet dilemma?

So I signed up for ANOTHER poker room, Jungle poker. I heard they are giving a 200% bonus. Well, you can't deposit money until later in May. They are running freerolls all the time under the promo name "Win your bankroll." As far as poker rooms go, I don't have a lot of good things to say. I think that the tournament lobby really has some issues that need to be worked on. I really wonder if they had anyone that plays online poker consult with them before they put this thing live. They are offering lots of freerolls, but they are typical - 900, first place pays $50. The bonus is, everyone who makes the money also gets a ticket to a WSOP freeroll. I just finished playing a Limit tournament for three hours and forty three minutes...I ended up 3rd. 795 starts, so I'm going to pat myself on the back for that finish. Good for $15 in this new room. I might just skip the bonus and play with that $15, see what happens. Maybe I'll go Chris Moneymaker on that ass! I'm going to have to get through another 3,000 players to get my shot. The tournament is on Saturday, the 20th. Positive thoughts.

Talked about AZ Slick on the last couple shows. He represented AZ in the APL national championship. He is a great guy, a regular contributor and listener to the show. Here is how is trip when down....

I am back from the National Championships, what a
trip! Fast and furious...On Friday, Landed via
Frontier Airlines at 1:30 pm Friday and made it to the
Hotel in St. Charles at about 5 pm. Cleaned up and
walked to the venue, Pasta Luigi's On Main, 0.7 mile
to have dinner and possibly play in the scheduled
poker night. Had a fairly good night playing, the
first tourney with 74 players I finished 16th. The
second tourney of the evening, with 65 players, I
finished 3rd. Was late getting back to the hotel. I
had a hard time sleeping but slept later than planned
on Sat. (the day of the Championship). The weather
was overcast with scattered showers, so didn't get out
until I had to walk to the venue. By that time it had
stopped raining for a while, so I really had a nice
quiet walk (beautiful scenery along the river). Got
to the site about 1/2 hour before the event was
supposed to start. The APL officials had told me that
there were going to be some big announcements
concerning the APL growth and future plans. The
Announcements were as follows: 1) They now have more
that 100,000 members in 12 states. 2) They have a new
on line store, that had been promised to the members
for quite some time. They stated that with 100,000
members they were able to get some deep discounts from
the suppliers and are passing the discounts to their
members. 3) They now have a new partner which will
give the members many benefits. The new pardner is
DoylesRoom.com. I am looking forward to seeing what
difference this will make, I guess only time will
tell. Then we had a 1/2 hour talk about poker from an
ambassador from Doyles Room, Mike Caro (The mad Genius
Of Poker). The talk would have been interesting if it
wouldn't have been interrupted with technical
difficulties. He is an interesting character. Then
the tourney started, play was tight. I was able to
last through the first break, then took a shot on a
marginal hand and lost. I wasn't catching many cards
but saw some really interesting hands.

The second hand of the tourney was the most
interesting, I was in the big blind, did have any
thing, the player 3 to my left raised before the flop
so I folded, there were 3 in the hand on the flop, the
flop came 4Q7 all diamonds, the first player bet $500,
the next went all-in, the next called. The first
player thought and thought and thought and finally
folded, his cards were in the muck but where he could
turn over and show everyone why he took so much time.
The two players still in the pot turned there cards
over, the first one all-in had Ad1d, the second player
wasn't all-in because he had won $160 from winning the
first pot, had Kd8d. The turn came an 9s and the
river was the Qh. Needless to say the A high flush
won, but the reluctant folder turned up his hand, the
two black queens. He would have had quad queens. He
could get over that. The looser of the second hand
went all in with his $160 and was taken out by the big
winner of the second hand. Six hands later the Quad
Queen player went all-in with pocket queens and was
take out by the winner of hand 2 pocket of Kings. We
sat around with chip stack envy, the player with
triple ours. We treating him like he was the bad guy
at the table. He said he wasn't really a bad guy, but
he all agreed that with his stack he was a bad guy.
Everyone laughed. I just checked the website and the
bad guy at our table won the national championship.

Anyway, Jason Torrance of Winfield Kansas won the APL
National Championship. Congrats to him.

FYI. ESPN Classic is doing a "poker marathon" today. The '04 US Poker Championship is on now and poker continues all day. Good reason to sit infront of the monitor, play some and watch some. Good way to spend a Saturday.

So I am having an issue WINNING a tournament. 50th tonight in the $17,000 guarantee. I'm ok with that, but I WANT the win. I seem to be able to get in the money often, it's the final table that eludes me. It's the "play for the win" attitude that I need. Not something that shows up in a book I'm guessing (If you have the title, please post it in the comment section). I'm going to pull out Harrington on Hold'em right now, look for some inspiration. Sure seems like most of the tournaments I play in ($50 and under buy-ins) turn into All-in fest around the bubble and stay that way. Can you combat that, or do you just have to sit wait to get 'LUCKY'?

I'm a losing player, no question, but these tournaments are keeping me above water right now. They are a ton of fun and the players just seem extra weak to me. After living in KC for over a month, I finally made it out to play some live poker at one of the local casinos for the opportunity to embarrass myself face-to-face. Before I go back I'm going to re-listen to the interview I did with Lee Jones. He wrote "Winning Low Limit Hold'em." I don't remember the interview, this past weekend, I could have used the help. Because I play online so much, I forgot how nerve racking playing live can be. It was a pretty typical $3/$6 game. Lots of players to the flop, then to the river. I played way too tight the first nite. So tight, that my buy-in was limited to only a few hands. Those hands had to hit, or I was done. I had such a good time Thursday, I made the return Friday. The Ameristar room here in KC is ok. Doesn't quit live up to the Shoe in CB, but that room is brand new, so I didn't expect it to. I didn't have a great weekend. I did shake off the nerves that I had the first night. I'm ready to go back. Beat-able game without a doubt. I was shocked at how many players knew each other, how many dealers knew the players. It's sad how much I love this game and how much it hates me. They do have a Tuesday night and Thursday night tournament that I'm going to try and make it to in the next couple months.

As far as a play tip goes, PAY ATTENTION. It's nothing new. But if are looking around when you are not in the hand, you are not making as much money as you should be. Who is seeing lot's of flops? How do they play their winners/losers? Work on working out pots odds, it'll help pass they time and it will be worth the work.

Ante UP news. We are going to have two interviews on the show Monday. One of them being a Full Tilt Pro. Ante Up is still rolling.

I'm not going have much time for poker this weekend. Saturday I'm off to the KSU spring game! Sat we kick off the Ron Prince era. Should be good times to be back in MHK for the first time in years. I might even be able to sneak into the KSU Baseball game for a bit. Then Sunday we are off to see the Royals! Sure they lost 10 games in a row, but I plan on bringin' them some good BG karma. Look for a big win on Sunday over the Indians.

I did have time to win 2 FTP 4 X heads-up shootouts last nite. Those things are GREAT tournaments. They are fast and they have a great return on your money if you win. Plus I think that being good at heads up play is an important weapon to have in your game.

Just got back from the Horseshoe, CB. Damn nice room. Pretty standard, but Council Bluffs needed this one. No wait, no smoking. $3/$6 live limit can be a very frustrating game. 7 players to the flop every hand, wow. Folks just giving away money, so I took a little. Little being the operative word of that sentence. I walked with 5 big bets, but that is much better than walking away down. I only played for 3 hours, left me wanting to get in about 5 more. Good times, good room. Congrats CB.

Nothing says "celebration of the resurrection of Christ" like heads-up poker! It's the re-birth of the "National Heads-up Poker Championship" on NBC this weekend. Much like on Thanksgiving when you make the move to "watch football (sleep)" to avoid helping in the kitchen or dealing with kids, NBC offers a similar excuse this Sunday. The first episode of the '06 tournament starts at high noon, EST. Fill out a bracket and start an office pool!

I can say this...I miss Leslie. It is odd recording the show, with no-one listening as I do it. This is my excuse for it sounding weak. Plus, since I don't have to fill an hour, it's hard to judge if I'm going too long or not. Next week, back to the interviews, that is the goal. Today is my B-day, so I'm going to celebrate/mourn the loss of my youth and take this one more week to get the show back to where it should be. Even with this break is production we are still gaining listeners. Got an email this week from a guy in KC who just found the show. There is plenty of good stuff in the archives to get you by for seven more days. I'm working on a big interview for next Monday, then we are back full steam ahead. Till I win a big one, then I pay someone else to do it.

The new studio I'm in does have a phone line yet, so I'm working on it. This Monday the show is going to be just me, in turn probably very short.

In a past show I talked to a guy that did a 108 X 180 challenge. Well, I'm doing a 45 X 45 challenge, listen Monday to find out how bad it is going.

Also, I've been playing the 4 X heads up shootout tournaments on FTP, in turn, tune in to find out how bad I suck at them. But they are so damn fun.

Still not settled into the new place and my computer is in storage for 2 more weeks. That being said, it feels as though there is enough response to continue Ante UP Radio. A new show will be on next Monday (3/27/06). I am also working on the new studio situation, so I don't know if there will be any interviews, but there will at least be ME! What else do ya need?

On the poker front. I haven't been playing much during the move. This past weekend I did get into the new tournament format on Full Tilt Poker. They now have four player, Heads-Up, SNG, Shootout tournaments. (Think final four bracket.) This a 4 X payout on the buy-in if you win. I wouldn't know. I played in 10 of them and didn't win a single one. Talk about a shot to the ego. And to toss salt in the wound, I did make it to the final table each time. My issue is one of two things, I suck or lose focus. Maybe it's a combo of the two. I think that these tournaments are great in the area of payout and length when you lose I guess. If you are into heads-up play, give them a run.

Ante UP Radio is on the air tonight at 6pm. We will talk to Michael Craig. He wrote the book "The Professor, the Banker and the Suicide King" about Andy Beal vs the Poker Pros. If you are into poker and the internet at all, you know that round two just happened in Vegas in the past few months. Michael was on of only 2 people allowed to sit at this game (except the dealers). We talk to him tonight!

Other than that, I have been swamped with the move. One week from today I start a new job in Kansas City. I'm pumped about this new job, but right now am in the middle of packing and that is not a fun thing to do. I haven't played much online for the past couple weeks. I did find the time to play about 10 hours of live poker this weekend. I love live poker. The more I play poker the more I realize how good the movie renders is. "If you can't spot the sucker in the first 5 min, you are the sucker." Great line. This is the reason I'm learning Omaha hi-lo split. EVERYONE knows how to play hold'em these days. I'm looking for any advantage I can get. Hi-Lo split paid off to the tune of 6 times the buy-in yesterday.
